CASE STUDY: WHISTL

Tiger curtainsider bodies help put Whistl to work

During a visit to Tiger Trailers to discuss expanding its trailer fleet, national postal operator, Whistl, was shown first-hand the manufacturing processes in place for Tiger’s rigid bodywork; so impressed with what they saw, the team from Whistl soon placed a significant order for a fleet of new trucks featuring Tiger-built bodies.

From the outset, Tiger’s design team worked very closely with Whistl to establish the exact operational requirements for each vehicle, recommending the ideal specification for each build. The new curtainsider bodies are mounted to a mix of 18-tonne and 26-tonne Renault rigid trucks and are on the road six days a week collecting and delivering mail and parcels across the UK.

Baz Barrett, National Fleet and Compliance Manager for Whistl, explains: “I was visiting Tiger to discuss trailers, but when we were on the factory floor I saw a rigid body being built. I asked the team to take me through the build and that was all it took to convince me. The product was perfect for our needs.”

Tiger’s consultative approach saw it hold several meetings with Whistl to discuss bespoke features for the build, such as the inclusion of an under-slung tail-lift to allow easier backing onto loading bays. Tiger Trailers also applied the Whistl livery to each of the trucks, in a move aimed at saving costs for the customer.

Barrett adds: “Throughout the build process I’ve been back to Tiger’s factory several times and am always impressed by the consistent approach to quality. Their attention to detail throughout has been first class. Making suggestions such as handling the application of our livery makes the whole process easier and cost-effective.”

The second largest postal operator in the UK, Whistl provides collection and delivery services for business mail, parcels and door-drop media distribution, both in the UK and internationally. The trucks formed part of the Whistl commercial vehicle fleet, operating out of the company’s sites in Bristol, Iver, Bolton, Rugby and Glasgow and clock up around 80,000 km per year.
